Review: Hatchetts - Mayfair
Londoners take heed, Hatchetts, a 110 cover double-storey modern British restaurant and bar has been unveiled in the heart of Mayfair.
The ground floor bar has an outstanding range of quality cocktails, mouthwatering small plates and crisp salads. Whilst the comfortable lower ground floor dining room is the setting for the glorious spread of exceptional modern British cooking Hatchetts have on offer.
The decor is quaint and humble, the lower floor has a more rustic feel than the ground floor, mainly due to its slightly tarnished floor. However its deep red walls and art deco accents welcomes you into its bosom. The staff are extremely accommodating as well as attentive which is hard to find, even in the best eateries in London.
Starters include Devonshire Crab & Nectarine salad and Scorched Mackerel. British favourites which a decadent twist, which are also flavourful yet light, a good balance when it comes to your first taster.
Speaking of first impressions, the restaurant has an incredible list of wines from across the globe alongside refined single malt whiskies and a selection of champagne cocktails. I carefully raise a champagne flute filled with Moet, bourbon and mint to my lips. A strong and sweet hum caresses my tongue and sends messages of satisfaction into the depths of my mind.
The exquisitely presented roast fillet of brill with cuttlefish and ink dressing was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was a shame to desecrate the plate on which it was laid. The tender brill was lovingly encased in a light buttery sauce.
Dessert summed up this faultless meal. Already feeling rather full, I ordered the dark chocolate marquis & cherry sorbet like a true glutton. The sumptuous sweet exuded a rich cocoa taste upon my palette. The sharpness of the cherry sorbet linked seamlessly with the immense bitterness of the cocoa in the marquis.
If you're looking for a perfect meal or tipple, Hatchetts is the place to visit.
